A section of Shobek Fort that was added on to by the Persians

Eastward view of Shobek Fort, which was designed to watch out for incoming Persian forces

  1. Thanks for all the photos, and it goes without saying AMAZING! What happened to the Nabaateans? Were they just absorbed by couquering foes? Tell me about the people you met? Are they Arabic speakers? Do they make their living on tourists like you? Did they mind being photographed? I want details!!!! MOM

P.S. Being photographed by enormous photos of the King's DO NOT COUNT!

  3. We werent allowed to go into the actual monument, but our tour guide told us we could. So I decided to get as far as I could before we got yelled at. No secret tunnels leading to a Holy Grail, no signs of an all spark. :)

Nabateans economy was based entirely on trade. When the trade routes shifted, their economy collapsed and the civilization died. Rumor has it the bedouins in the area are their descendents, but no one knows. Of course people here are Arabic speakers! Sheesh! A blog is on the way with more details!
